Anti - Wrinkle Treatment

Wrinkles and facial lines are caused by a combination of factors.

These can include ageing, sun damage, loss of elasticity, genetic makeup-up, breakdown of collagen and hyperactive facial muscles. Other factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption and diet can contribute to the development and worsening of wrinkles.

At Amber Grove Aesthetics and Wellbeing we are experts in softening and improving the appearance of facial wrinkles using safe and effective injections to restore your self-confidence.

What are they?

Most commonly anti-wrinkle injections in the form of Botulinum Toxin A are used. Botulinum toxin products are a POM (prescription only medicine), meaning they need to be prescribed and given by a medical professional.

Botulinum Toxin, is a highly effective non-animal derived purified neurotoxin protein, that has received approval from both the FDA for its use in temporarily easing muscle activity.

This neurotoxin stops the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for transmitting impulses between nerve cells and muscles which tells the muscle to contract.

It works by blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it’s injected. When those muscle fibres can’t contract, your wrinkles relax and soften.

It is frequently applied to areas such as the forehead’s worry lines, the crow’s feet beside the eyes, and the frown lines between the eyebrows.

Botox® has become a widely recognized term often used to refer to all types of botulinum toxin treatments or neuromodulators, even though it is a brand name for a specific type of botulinum toxin. Several other brands and products are in the market too.

It gives:

  • quick results
  • minimal downtime
  • non-surgical, meaning you can avoid the risks associated with more invasive procedures.

Side effects:

As with any medical treatment, there are some risks associated with Wrinkle Relaxing Injections. Some of the most common side effects include:

  • Bruising
  • Asymmetry
  • Headache
  • Discomfort at the injection site

More rarely patients should look out for

  • Signs of an allergic reaction such as itching, rash, redness or swelling around the injection site.
  • Ptosis (another awareness post to come on this).

It’s important to get treatment from a qualified medical professional who properly understands individual facial anatomy and you as a patient to minimise these risks.
